Each year at its annual conference the NZCAC formerly presents its
Assisi Awards in ’recognition of outstanding service to animals’ to
individuals who have contributed to the welfare of animals, whether in
New Zealand or on the International scene.
The award, named in
honour of St Francis of Assisi, the Patron Saint of Animals, is an
acknowledgement by the Council of the achievements of those whose goals
echo the principles of excellence in animal welfare.
Nominations
for these awards are welcomed from all sectors of the community and
should be submitted by May of the year in which the awards will be
allocated. Nominations will be considered by the Awards Committee for
submission to the Council and are not limited in any way (other than
such awards cannot be granted to existing members of the Council). The Awards Committee make the final decision as to each year’s recipients and details of winners are kept confidential until announced at the annual Conference.
